Hotel interior photography at Symphony Style Kuwait by Gerry O’Leary
The bathroom is an essential feature of every hotel room, though it’s not necessarily what springs to mind first when you make a booking. Among hotel photographers, we know that the bathroom is a secret selling point – far from being merely functional, these rooms are a space where guests can envision themselves relaxing.
From the soft glow that reflect off polished surfaces to the sensual curves of a freestanding tub – bathrooms promise a break, an interlude, whether that’s from your long day of meetings, or your packed itinerary of exploration.
In my luxury hospitality photography portfolio, I’ve collected bathroom images from all over the world. I’ve photographed boutique resorts in the Maldives and business hotels in Minnesota, yet I’ve never seen a bathroom that looks the same as another. Who knew that such utilitarian space could be so eye-catching?
Here I let you take a peek into some of those luxury bathrooms through my lens.
1. Ajman Saray
Part of Marriott’s ‘The Luxury Collection’, Ajman Saray is a luxury resort on the UAE coastline. I’ve always felt that Ajman is like a little secret for UAE dwellers, an escape not far from Dubai yet still boasting beautiful beaches and a more laidback vibe.
The bathrooms at this resort reflect that charm – serene green artwork and mosaic tiles with wooden elements that bring a warmth to the space. I also love the Arabian-style lantern fittings that bring a touch of heritage to the design.
2. SLS Dubai
SLS Dubai is one of the most striking skyscrapers on the Business Bay skyline. It oozes cool modernity, and I was delighted to get the call to photograph it before it opened in 2021.
In a hotel with so many sleek features, one might expect the bathroom to be an afterthought, but Bishop Design made it a masterpiece. The avant-garde artwork is a wonderful counterpoint to the practical elements of the bathroom, making it a brilliant 21st century space.
3. Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi
Located in the iconic leaning tower of Abu Dhabi, Andaz Capital Gate is a stylish concept hotel, part of Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, for which I’ve had the privilege of being an approved hotel photographer for over 14 years.
This boutique five-star property isn’t just record-breaking on the outside, its interiors live up to the billing. There aren’t many places that you can soak in the bath and admire the magnificent views across Abu Dhabi! The fact that the room gets plenty of natural light is a big plus for me and I also like the caramel hues of the tiles, which provide a warm ambiance.
4. Waldorf Astoria DIFC
When you hear the name Waldorf Astoria, it conjures high quality, luxury and splendour. This Hilton property in the centre of Dubai’s financial centre is truly the epitome of all the superlatives associated with its location.
No expense has been spared in the detail of these bathrooms, as evidenced by the marble showers and sinks. The wooden entrance walls and gold finishes soften any sterility and elevate the lavish feel.
5. Jumeirah Al Naseem Dubai
Living in Dubai has allowed me to foster my long-standing collaboration with Jumeirah and photograph for properties such as Jumeirah Al Naseem, not far from where I live.
This bathroom is not just inviting, it makes you want to move in. The beautifully crafted cascading light sculpture is a stand-out feature of this bathroom, though the detail on the vanities and the door must also be appreciated. I also like the half wall sheltering the tub, providing extra privacy when bathing.
