A recent architectural photography project in Dubai that I was commissioned for.
Dubai is a nexus for amazing architecture. Simply naming the city conjures images of gleaming skyscrapers and luxury residences that have won awards for their striking design. When I’m not out of the country on photography projects in Saudi Arabia, India or even further afield, I keep an eye out for new architectural marvels appearing in the cityscape.
Not far from my Dubai home is the district of Al Safa. A much-loved retail centre was recently demolished so I was keen to see what would arise in its place.
I’ve been away a lot over the past 12 months photographing for architecture and hospitality clients, and suddenly the wonderful H Residence by HUNA has materialised in Jumeirah, adding a sleek new structure to the area.
Designed by the brilliant Tariq Khayyat of TKDP, this is an architectural masterpiece that has won over the hearts and minds of local residents, who initially were dismayed at the loss of the former development but now celebrate its replacement.
Its subtle yet elegant form reshapes the narrative of metropolitan habitats. Low-rise, spacious and accessible, it surrounds a tranquil public area of 1,800 sqm, where people can relax in the gardens. It blends elegant retail spaces and restaurants alongside 37 upscale residential units. H Residence has two separate wings, connected by a bridge that provides an exclusive viewing and recreation space for residents. It’s a development that gracefully merges with its surrounding environment while still making a distinct statement.
The pool is another amazing feature. In a city where many pools vie for the best view, H Residence adds competition. The 300 sqm outdoor infinity pool sits above the connecting bridge. From there residents can enjoy views across Downtown Dubai’s towering edifices and Burj Khalifa. In the other direction they can admire the sparkling Arabian Gulf.
It was an honour to be invited to capture the mixed-use development and showcase it for A.R.M. Holdings through my lens. It is a powerful representation of architectural excellence and also a spirited confluence in the community.
My work over the past three decades as an award-winning architectural photographer allows me to appreciate the magnitude of such developments. H Residence by HUNA is an exemplary instance where design meets function, integrating a forward-thinking vision with an inviting openness to the community it serves.
